Love

Love is the most wonderful, scary feeling in the world.

And we all have to have it.

But what is real love truly?

Many of us have a distorted view of what love really is due to our family ties, movies/media, and past relationships. We often charge forward without evaluating what happened and how love or the experience of it can be improved.

In order to give and receive love- real love, it starts with experiencing it in it’s truest form. Love from God, our Father.

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.

-1 John 4:18 NIV

The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.

– Jeremiah 31:3 NIV

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 8:37-39 NIV

We must learn to take time to be loved by our Heavenly Father. By doing so, our standard for love with arise to its proper place. And even understanding what love requires will shift into place. For love isn’t just a lovely feeling, real love requires transparency and intimacy. A baring of your soul without accessorizing your faults. Love is sacrifice to plant seed in someone else. We often come at love from a “gimme” perspective, but it requires giving even when it’s not comfortable or convenient anymore.

After all the failed relationships and situation-ships, I want real. That means learning how to love with the only One capable of withstanding my mistakes and moments of selfishness. It means developing enough faith that I don’t build walls and shut off emotions because fear of heartbreak. It means recognizing the power of my promises and following through even when I don’t feel like it. It’s being vulnerable enough to allow someone to see my ugly and love me still. It means investing my time, energy, and heart knowing that it will produce something great.

During this month, reset your definition and standards for love. Don’t allow fear to keep you in the same place receiving less than what you deserve. Rather turn to God first and allow Him to show you the way. And when He brings that special someone into your life, take the leap. God has something wonderful in store for you.
