The Spirit of Martha

God has really been dealing with me and my “doer” complex. I just like to have my instructions and then move to execute. I tend to take on a lot of tasks because, well I know I’ll get it done!

In this season, God has been dealing with me about Mary and Martha. I get Martha! We have to cook, there are things to clean, many tasks to be done… And we look at Mary like, “girl, I know you aren’t just sitting over there!?! Come help!” Weighed down by the never ending tasks, our spiritual, mental, and physical selves take a hit.

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Psalm 16:11 ESV

But not Mary. I think although we know we need God, we don’t understand truly how much we need Him daily. Often we operate like cars… we don’t fill up at all until we are on or near E. Mary understood that Jesus’ presence not only brought peace but it refreshed her. In His presence, she received instruction as well as strategy to accomplish what He set for her to do. She received comfort for life’s may obstacles.

The problem with Martha was in her identity. Martha was a servant. Mary was a daughter with a heart to serve. There is a major difference. Understanding that as a daughter, you have the right to sit at the King’s feet vs performance a task for His approval is major.

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Luke 10:41-42 NIV

Choose this week to make a change and start small. Spend 5-10 extra minutes with God each day. Sit at His feet as daughters and watch how you change!

A minute in His presence can change everything. ❤️
